I chose South Riverdale (Leslieville) as my home in 1983 because of its history of community action on social justice issues. The community, the local environment and Toronto neighbourhoods are some of the inspirations for my paintings. Since 2015 I am painting about colonialism from the perspective of a settler descendant seeking to understand how rights and privileges that I have, are denied to indigenous people. After working for >30 years in health care and as a community health planner (developing neighbourhood profiles and equitable funding strategies) I am now painting full time.
I studied at the Ontario College of Art (now OCADU) and have a BA & MA from Queen’s University.
